Charities Accepting Timeshare Donations

How to Donate Timeshares for Tax Deduction

Many timeshare owners out of luck on the resale market choose to offer their timeshare as a donation to a non-profit organization, or NPO. While some NPO’s have shied away from this type of fund raising, there are still many organizations out there that welcome timeshare as a way to raise money for their programs. Below is a list of charitable organizations accepting timeshare donations.

Charities Accepting Timeshare Donations –

Donate for a Cause – Accept many international timeshares and allow donors to choose charities to which proceeds are allocated. Participating charities include: The American Kidney Fund, Big Sky Youth Empowerment Movement, The Florida Veterans Assistance Organization, International Hearing Dog, Logan’s Hearts and Smiles, The National Foundation for Cancer Research, The Network Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse, The Thomas Moore School, The Real Gift Foundation, Great Beginnings Montessori School, The Children’s Home, and THRIVE.

Gifts for Sight – Organization handles all paperwork and donation benefits Eye Birth Defects Research Foundation.

The Charity Group – Works with many non-profits, but donor is not able to select charity.

Helping Hands Across America – A northeastern US-based non-profit affiliated with Meals on Wheels, The ALS Association, The Association of Blind Citizens, and Sacred Hearts Missions.

Southern New Hampshire University Timeshare Donation Program – Donation proceeds help SNHU students pay for tuition, buy textbooks, improve/build new facilities, and enhance academic offerings.

  1. Thank goodness I ran across a suggestion from someone who posted on another site years ago. I have an HGV property in Florida and usually banked my week and stayed at an RCI property. Like many others I have spent countless hours trying to offload my timeshare. After several years of use I wanted more flexibility than this old model of travel allows (thank goodness for Airbnb and VRBO!) and to get away from the fees that continue to grow each year. I’m fortunate in that it was gifted to me, so I didn’t need to recoup an investment. After wasting a few months with HGV listing it for sale, and with the Jan 1 fees coming due, I got serious about digging into this.

Charities no longer want timeshares because they have the same problems we do with liquidating them. Even if you find one, you’re probably going to have to pay a few hundred dollars in fees for the transfer.

I called the salesperson representing my property and asked about the “deedback” option I read about. After first trying to convince me to let her drop the price again and give it a little more time to sell, she said the property can’t say that’s an option (officially) but if that’s the route I plan to go then I should call a specific title company, and she gave me a name and phone number.

Finally, some headway! I paid just under $300 in title search and related fees, and waited patiently. After about a month I received a copy of the registered and finalized deed – now back in the name of the property. I’m no longer responsible for fees and it’s time to celebrate. I sincerely hope this helps someone else out there!

    1. I contacted my resort and they are claiming they will only take it back if I can prove medical or financial hardship. I bought back in 2001 in a completely different phase of life and life experience. Are there any loopholes or other options if the resort essentially says “no tradebacks”?

  2. We run a small non profit and are looking for a timeshare week donation (not the timeshare as we cannot accept the title nor pay the maintenance fees) for our 3rd annual HHMF Golf Tournament. If you have a week stay at your timeshare you would like to donate please contact me at veronica@wennekamp.com or on facebook at Hallelujah Helen Memorial Fund. I can provide you with our IRS determination letter. Thank you.

    2. Hello,
I’m Elida Deluna, founder of Celebrate Your Talent. I would be very interested in receiving your timeshare as a donation and I can find out how to do so and issue a receipt for your donation for tax purposes. Celebrate Your Talent will use the timeshare as a way to help our members receive the training that they need in the performing arts by having a place to stay during travel for training. Our program includes local talent as well as talent that must travel. The United States has an amazing amount of performing arts/art trainers and coaches. Having a place to host out-of-towners would be a great help! Please contact me if you are interested and please share with any others you know that might be. In-kind gifts are our focus, it’s so meaningful.
      Thank you for considering,
      Elida Deluna

      3. Elida, can you take ownership of a timeshare week (meaning would your organization own the deed to the week)? Or are you just looking for someone to donate a single time visit to the resort? Because timeshare ownership requires taxes and maintenance fees…and I will very gladly give my entire timeshare to you if your organization takes complete ownership. Thanks!

    1. Hi Meghan. Tulsa Golf Connection is organizing a charity golf tournament to benefit the Coweta OK Police Department. The tournament will take place on September 30, 2017, where the proceeds will enable the Coweta Police Department to purchase needed equipment, as well as assisting with the holiday “Shop With a Cop” program, which allows the officers to purchase Christmas presents for children, in the community, who would, otherwise, not have any. We hope that you are able to donate to our cause. We are in need of gift certificates, products for a silent auction (Hotel Stays, Vacation packages, Tickets, Autographed items, etc.) and hole sponsors. To be able to auction a condo in Florida for a week would be incredible!!

    3. Hello I work with a Non-profit in Oklahoma City, and am looking for a donated time share that we can use as a live auction item. We are asking for your support by donating time share to use in the auction portion of our fundraising event. All funds raised will benefit Oklahoma City Indian Clinic CARES Capital Campaign Pharmacy Expansion. The current pharmacy at 900 square feet does not have the capacity to fill the needs of our 18,000 patients; therefore the clinic’s goal is to build a 7,000 square foot pharmacy to continue to provide excellent health care for the future.

Your donated time share would be put to good use, and will provide you with a tax donation. If you are interested in donating your time share to us, you can reach me at [redacted]

Our organization’s ability to continue to operate is due in large part to the generous support of individual donors who believe in our mission.

  31. I have several guest certificates to Vidanta Resorts in Mexico (7 locations) I would like to offer to any charity wanting to do a fundraiser. At this time one of the locations at Riviera Maya, south of Cancun, has the new Cirque du Soleil theater attached to it.

If anyone knows how this can be done or is interested themselves, please contact me by email.

    Thanks

    1. Billy G,

Were you able to find an organization to donate your weeks? I am in the same situation with multiple weeks at the same Vidanta property.

      Thanks!

      1. Dave and Tina, I know it’s a late time to answer but just revisited this site. I found one place for donating timeshares but they want me to donate the timeshare in full and not just the use of it. So I talked no farther.

        1. Can you tell me the name of this company? I am looking to donate my timeshare in full, and I can’t seem to find anyone interested…

    2. I am experiencing the same situation. In fact, while at the Riviera maya property you mentioned I received multiple certificates that they assured me could be easily donated. But it turns out that I have no idea how. Were you able to accomplish this? If so,could you please help direct me? Thank you.

      2. I have a timeshare in kissimmie florida near disney and would like to donate it. please contact me by email if interested

  32. There are a few places out there that accept timeshare donations. I contacted Real Estate With Causes and they said they accept timeshares. I guess a timeshare donation is the same as when you donate real estate to charity.. They directed me to their online donation form http://www.realestatewithcauses.org/property-donations.htm and told me to fill it out. I got a call a few days later and it’s in the works right now. Seems simple enough.

I have another backup in case this doesn’t go through. Charity Boats doesn’t only take boat donations, they take timeshares too, along with a bunch of other things. I filled out their online donation form http://www.charityboats.org/contact_us.html and told them that if it doesn’t pan out with Real Estate With Causes, I would donate to them.

Maybe you should try other charities that aren’t specific to timeshares. It seems like there’s a bunch out there..

    1. S HERNANDEZ- When I contacted Real Estate With Causes, they directed me to an online form on their timeshare website: http://www.timesharedonations.org/timesharedonation.htm
I completed the form and got a call the next afternoon from one of their reps who informed me that there are transfer fees associated with donating timeshares (but I already knew this from speaking with the resort directly) so I am going to pay those fees and let the organization take the timeshare off my hands. Frankly, I’m tired of paying fees for something I don’t use and I don’t even know why I bothered with this timeshare to begin with!
Hope this helps some of you, because I know how frustrating it is to try to get rid of these things!

  33. Defeatdiabetes.org accepts timeshare donations and there is no cost upfront.. The proceeds go to Diabetes Awareness.. One of the few agencies that does not charge a fee.

Great foundation helping people all around the world

    1. Have you actually seen the reports on the Defeat Diabetes Foundation? They are one of the worst 50 charitable organizations in the US, using questionable practices and professional solicitors to bring in donations. Not a place I would trust to handle my timeshare donation/sale.

  34. I have two timeshares with Diamond International that I would like to donate. One is Los Abrigatos in Sedona, AZ, 1 week annually, and Monarch Palm Desert, 1 week every even year. Please let me know if you are interested.
    Thank you,
    Barbara Hornsby

      1. Have several weeks to donate. I am elderly and cannot travel. Will need to donate and need 501c3 form. Time shares in Palm Springs, ca. Florida, and Del Mar Beach, ca.

  35. I have 2 Marriott timeshare properties I would like to donate. One weekat Marriott Grande Vista in Florida (2 bedroom, 2 bath lock-off) and one week at Marriott Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert(2 bedroom, 2 bath lock-off). Maintance fees are $1,000 each.

I also have one RIP timeshare with Colorado River Adventures with a matainance fee of $400

  36. Everything dealing with the timeshare industry turns out to be a scam. I called my resort and asked if they will take back the timeshare for nothing and they said no. These things are worth nothing. How could I get rid of this timeshare? (Vacation Village at Parkway 2BR even years)

  37. I attempted to donate a Timeshare to The National Childrens Association. I was charged a transfer fee, with the agreement that the Charity would handle all necessary documentation and provide me with a donation receipt for tax purposes. The entire process was suppose to take 30 days (as indicated on the website http://nationalchildrens.webs.com). It has been 90 days, and the Charity has now become nonresponsive to any telephone inquiries (not answering or returning calls). The only communication that I am getting is via e-mail (upon my inquiries), but the rep is not providing me with any type of status, although promises are made that it is forthcoming. The Charity indicated that weekly updates would be provided when I entered into this contractual arrangement. I tried to be very cautious as to which Charity to select, and this Charity is registered with the BBB and was initially licensed with the Trade Commission when I signed the Contract.

I contacted the Trade Commission on last week and was informed that The National Childrens Association’s Charity license was cancelled on 3/24/10. I have now filed a complaint with the Dept of Consumer Affairs and the BBB. I am concerned that this Charity will quickly “dissolve”, without fulfilling the terms of this contract and not refunding my money.

Be leery of Timeshare donations and even though I did my research beforehand, it still appears that I have been scammed.

    1. the national childrens association is a scam. i sent them 2 properties and they took my money and now they dont even return calls.

      1. If you have not already, contact the Florida Police Dept. Investigative Services, as they are handling this case for victims of this scam.

        1. Thanks for the tip J. Lynch. I will do that. I actually ended up getting rid of the 2 weeks by using Property Donation Group. I was not able to donate and they did charge me but the transfers were completed successfully.

  38. We just starting planning our school fundraiser to raise money for a gym and library. We would gladly accept a time share in Gran Mayan for our auction to help raise the money.

    1. Hi,
Sherri I have clients looking to donate gift certificates worth upto
$ 6,000 to charities for auction or fundraising in one of the largest resort developments in Mexico which is a Private Residence Club.
There would be a one nights fee payable for the 7 night stay but a saving of over $ 5,000 in a AAA five diamond resort with 7 locations.the cost of the one night can be built into the reserve price which is what most charities do. You can look up the locations at vidanta.com
      Thanks

    2. Are you still looking for donations? I also have ambassador certificates through my Timeshare Membership with Vidanta Group, which is a 5* Luxury Resort; the certificates allow vacationers to stay at any of the 7 destination locations throughout Mexico. This is the top of the line Luxxe membership within the Vidanta group. The certificate entitles the recipient to 7 nights and ground transportation from the airport to the resort. The certificate holder will only pay the usage fee for the size of the unit reserved which ranges from about $400 to $1400.

    1. I was a 6 star timeshare in Cancun. Fully paid. A unit that sleeps 6. Floating week but platinum membership garuntees for high season including Christmas and Thanksgiving

      Let me know if interested
      My name is Vikas

  39. I have two timeshares which I am interested in donating.

Silverleaf Ozark Mountain in Branson, Missouri

Silverleaf Lake of the Woods in flint, Texas

  40. Defeat Diabetes Foundation is accepting Timeshare donations. Contact us at: timeshares@defeatdiabetes.org

Timeshare donations can offer a valuable tax write-off for the donor. In addition, your donation will help Defeat Diabetes Foundation fund ongoing advocacy efforts and support programs close to the hearts of diabetics and their families.

The mission of Defeat Diabetes Foundation is to inform, educate and alert the general public, diabetics, pre-diabetics and elected officials about the disease, its prevention and the consequences of undiagnosed and/or poorly managed diabetes and to provide accurate, up-to-date and practical information on the treatment and self-management of the disease.
